Eat Better, Be Better

There was a day not too long ago when I woke up to my fresh coffee and was having a great day until about eleven in the morning. Suddenly, I felt depleted, and just felt as though I needed a nap. Looking back on that morning I realized how important my nutrition is and that the donut I had for breakfast was not going to cut it!

The scene I just described is a challenge that many of us face each day. Breakfast is the first meal of the day and sometimes we can’t even get that right. Since switching to a holistic nutrition plan, I have experienced some fantastic benefits.

  • More energy to push through the day and be productive!

  • Improved my health

  • Leaned out

  • Improved my mood dramatically

Life can be so depressing when we face it with a negative mindset or attitude. Surprisingly, what we consume plays a major role in how we feel. I am going to take each of these benefits and explain why exactly they are important and have changed my day-to-day.

Food is in essence, a collection of minerals, nutrients, and calories that is used to fuel our bodies. In a recent Harvard Health article, linked below, it discusses basic nutrition and how our body’s have dietary needs.

  • Avoid sugary foods that will cause an energy crash

  • Use caffeine as a stimulant at ideal times

  • Drink WATER! Lots of it

The first argument a dietician will make is that eating nutritiously will make you live healthier and help prevent disease. The statistics overwhelmingly show that the risk of all the following are reduced by healthy eating:

  • Dental Disease

  • Cardiovascular Disease

  • Cancer

  • Diabetes

  • Osteoporosis

Let’s face the facts when it comes to body image. Many of us want a strong physique to be proud of. What we consume is way more important than how many miles you run each morning. By eating healthy and occasional exercise, you will set yourself on the long but rewarding journey of good health.

Good eating makes us look healthier and feel healthier, and it only makes sense that it will make us feel better at the end of the day. There have been numerous days where I crave a crisp, fresh salad instead of a burger. The food-mood connection is very real as the mayo clinic states it. There have been studies that show an association between healthier eating and improved mood.

The benefits to healthy eating are the difference between slogging through each day and springing from your bed to watch the sunrise. The benefits include increased energy, improved health, and the promotion of happiness. If you would like to read up some more on healthy eating and its effects, check out the articles below.
